The OFC Distillery – A Taste of History at Buffalo Trace

    September 23, 2018

As a Kentuckian, I take great pride in the various bourbon distilleries in this great state. Thankfully, Buffalo Trace has embraced that history with one of their newer tours! While renovating a storage space in 2016, the crew at Buffalo Trace came across a wonderfully preserved distillery from the Pre-Prohibition Era called the OFC Distillery.…

It’s time for some real talk: it’s been a hard It’s time for some real talk: it’s been a hard few days. Nashville is a city that’s easy to fall in love with - just ask anyone who has ever visited. The people, the atmosphere, the music that fills every corner of the city resonates with you forever. I’ve considered Nashville to be my second home for nearly my entire life. Living an hour away means frequent trips to the city exploring every single nook and cranny of music city. In case you aren’t aware, a tornado struck Nashville earlier this week. East Nashville is torn apart, many people lost their lives, and many are still missing. It’s absolutely tragic, but Nashville is doing what Nashville does best: coming together and caring for everyone. The saying “Nashville Strong” isn’t just a saying, it’s a testament to the resilience, compassion, and true strength of everyone who calls Nashville home. Please keep everyone who has lost a loved one, who is displaced, and who has been affected by this tornado in your thoughts. If you can, please pitch in and help Nashville and the surrounding area out in any way you can. Nashville is a really special place that’s treasured by many. #NashvilleStrong

Happy Valentine’s Day! 💕🥰 When I was explo Happy Valentine’s Day! 💕🥰 When I was exploring NYC, I went searching for this amazing mural by @kelseymontagueart! I’ve been a huge fan of her work for years thanks to the iconic wings mural she put up near where I live in Nashville, TN (I’m sure you know the ones - they’re incredible). Now, I always make sure to check and see if she has any work in cities I visit! Do you have a ritual like this for places you visit? Let me know in the comments 💕

2019 was one for the books. I was able to work wit 2019 was one for the books. I was able to work with brands I admire, walked the Camino Frances (something I’d dreamed of doing for the better part of the decade!), connected with new people and made lifelong friends, got to explore 7 countries (2 of which with my mom), traveled across the country and down the road to see my favorite band three times, and kept falling more and more in love with my crazy, wonderful life. 🥰
2020 hopes to be an even better year, both for me personally and for Her Life in Ruins. I am so proud of how much my little corner of the Internet has grown and hope to bring you all tons of fresh, original, history centered content throughout the year! In my personal life, I’m putting down roots and (hopefully) buying a house, which means you might even see more lifestyle content from me in the coming months as I move in. 😉 Happy New Year! I hope the 2020s are all of our best decade yet.

Y’all. I’m a sucker for public art. Transformative, monumental, and kind of controversial, the Vessel is a sight to behold! Visitors can get free tickets to enter this towering structure and climb to new heights at @hudsonyards! I spent around half an hour taking in the city from different sides and heights of this structure and loved this new perspective of a city I’ve come to love so much. .

@luminocityfestival is basically a classy version of the Griswold Christmas in a park on Randall’s Island. The lights are massive, seriously bright, and will take your breath away. I absolutely adored walking through the 4 areas of lights, especially the interactive tunnels and festival area at the end of the path! This light display is a serious gem in NYC this winter. Don’t miss it! .

This weekend, I went on a mini road trip around Nashville hitting up a few wineries. I learned so much about how wine is made in Tennessee and got to taste all sorts of yummy wine at vineyards and urban wine spaces! Stay tuned for a post coming to a blog later in the month 😉 📸: @kyleigh_taylor9 .
