Adventures

“Adventures” is a category of posts centered on travel. These posts are about places I have visited. Posts are limited to Europe and North America at present.

Post in this category include travel guides (city, regional, and entire country) and general trips for navigating these places. Top posts in this category include guides to Nashville’s Lower Broadway, Universal Studios Orlando, and the Greek Mainland and Cycladic Islands.

Travel guides tend to include tips on where to stay, what to eat, what to do, unique experiences, and where to party in each city/region/country covered in that guide. Links are usually provided when I suggest specific places/businesses in posts. Links are meant to assist readers in making plans for their own travels.

Guides are always accurate at time of publishing. I try to edit guides if/when I am made aware of changes (price changes, closed businesses, etc.) that have occurred since the publication of that guide.

All opinions expressed in guides are my own. Readers are encouraged to leave comments/replies to posts. These comments are the reflection of the opinions of the commenter.

Road Tripping the Sights of Central Arkansas

Welcome to MarMar Monday! KB’s sister, MarMar, is excited to share her travels with you. This week we’re chatting about her road trip through central Arkansas! Okay classic movie buffs/musical theatre children, if you are anything like me, you have been enamored by the idea of going to Little Rock, Arkansas ever since Ms. Lorelei Lee sang that she “was just a little girl from Little Rock.” Well, a few…

Wake Up, San Francisco! A Golden Gate Trip

Welcome to MarMar Monday! KB’s sister, MarMar, is excited to share her travels with you. This week we’re chatting about her trip to San Francisco, California! Hey everyone! So, this is a very special post about me, because I am going to write about my 21st birthday trip that I took with my mom to the one, the only, San Fransisco, California. So… why San Fran for a 21st? Basically,…

  • The History and Secrets of the Castillo de los Templarios | Her Life in Ruins

The History and Secrets of the Castillo de los Templarios

I don’t know about you, but I am a sucker for knight lore! One of my favorite (and most well known) groups of knights were the Knights Templar, and not just because they got a major shout out in National Treasure. When thinking of the Knights Templar, your mind probably goes straight to the Crusades and hoarding treasure. What you probably don’t know, though, is that the Knights Templar was…

  • The Instagrammers Guide to Nashville Murals | Her Life in Ruins

The Instagrammers Guide to Nashville Murals

Nashville is a quickly growing city full of great places to explore,┬álive music, the iconic Lower Broadway, and so many murals. I grew up a stone’s throw from Nashville and feel like I find a new mural every time I drive through Music City. Visitors and locals alike line up to snap a picture with some of the Nashville murals, even waiting hours for the chance. Finding some of the…

Pamplona’s City Walls: Remnants of the Middle Ages

When you think of Pamplona, the first thing that probably comes to mind is the famous Running of the Bulls (San Fermin) that takes place each July. You probably don’t know, though, that this city has one of the most sprawling and well preserved medieval fortress complexes in all of Europe! Pamplona’s City Walls stretch 5km around the Casco Viejo (Old Town) and offer breathtaking views of the newer parts…

  • Muiderslot Castle: A Half-Day Trip from Amsterdam

Spending a week of my summer in the Netherlands was one of my greater decisions. The weather was great, it wasn’t too crowded, and we were able to visit tons of cute places around the country! One such place was Muiderslot, a medieval castle dating to 1280 AD. Muiderslot stands in Muiden at the mouth of the Vecht River, only about 15km from Amsterdam! It’s the perfect way to spend…

  • One Step at a Time: My Journey on the Camino Frances | Her Life in Ruins

One Step at a Time: My Journey on the Camino Frances

Recently, I completed one of the most challenging things I’ve ever done: walking the Camino Frances. I walked from Saint-Jean Pied-de-Port in France to Santiago de Compostela in Spain. Google says it’s about 500 miles, but I didn’t focus on the length; instead, I focused on getting to the next albergue, the next village, the next tree, even the next step. I didn’t realize Santiago de Compostela was within reach…

  • Everything You Need to Know Before Visiting Porto | Her Life in Ruins

Everything You Need to Know Before Visiting Porto

Visiting Porto, or even Portugal, this year wasn’t originally part of my plan. I was walking the Camino de Santiago and had thought to head to Madrid for a few days before flying to Amsterdam to meet my mom. And then Champions League happened. Hotel rooms in Madrid skyrocketed and I suddenly had just over 3 days to fill. After about half an hour on Google and Pinterest, I decided…

Hidden River Cave: A Unique Adventure in the Bluegrass

When you think of Kentucky, you probably think of bourbon or horses; but, did you know Kentucky is home to some of the most incredible caves in the world? The south-central Kentucky region has so many caves worth exploring, but my favorite is Hidden River Cave in Hart County. Hidden River Cave is a river cave (bet you could guess that one by the name!), which means there’s a river…
